That's a really weird way to handle it. I'd rather it be framed as something like Satoko being willfully ignorant, it'd at least make a bit more sense given her position in the village.
She's stuck between her family/village, who are clearly opposed to polaris(her own daughter especially), and her personal history of being an abuse victim, which could let her relate to polaris to some degree.
That's just off the top of my head, but I feel like it would have a lot more potential than just "well she didn't know."
