It's the continual cycle of 4chan newfags, I think. The newfags join up and are scared that it's a secret, v& exploding base of lunatics. They stick around, realize there are a bunch of people from here who made it, and see stuff talked about here before it hits the mainstream, and then they start to think that we're actually a huge nexuspoint of culture and society, and that the bigwigs of the world got big because they tapped into our "information network and advice." Then, eventually, they stay long enough to realize that anyone who makes it from here only makes it because they can balance our culture with talent and hard work, and that this place only has so many people who make it because we're a hardcore hobbyist board, and that's the main extent of it.
We aren't the nexus point, nor are we really a group that is active outside of threads and boards. Despite the hype and circumstance, at the end of the day, we're just a hobbyist site that talks about more obscure stuff earlier than anyone else because only hardcore hobbyists will look into that stuff early, but doesn't do much besides take part in the hobbies we talk about. Whenever someone IS HERE, it's just because they are, or were, hardcore hobbyists before breaking into the bigtimes.
