I know that feeling OP. Live in suburbs, think that's what they are called, and thus I am too far from just walking or bike riding to any stores and jobs (no buses here), yet not so far that I live in the woods. There's no way to get ANYWHERE without a car, and you need social skills to get any of the left-over jobs (Speaking of which, they fired more people from every business in town). I don't even want to work, and I doubt there's any official building in which I can apply for autism bucks around these parts.

What sort of error did you get when booting, did you attempt to repair windows with the installation disk.

I always keep a DVD of linux with a liveCD feature on it, just in case windows breaks, all i have to do is pop the DVD in and boot in to linux and grab any valuable files and get them backed up before doing anything further
