probably true, i started watching anime without subs in late 2012 because i couldn't be bothered to wait 3 hours for the subs to come out. i vividly remember watching hataraku maou-sama and sitting there for minutes on end when they'd speak in the made up language with jsubs. 8 years later when mushoku did the same thing, i was able to read it with ease. we have come a long way and it not for a moment felt like study or required "willpower".
