Funny thing is I wrote that and I think I was the first to call it the Contact War.

If anyone cares, this was the rough timeline for the stories set in that universe.

500ya-200ya - Fall of the Dragoon Empire, Dissolution of the Order of Light
130ya- Land of the Five Eagles Conquered by the Demon Lord of the Ancestral Monsterlands (the Gatelands)
120ya- The Darkwater Rebellion
119ya- Gate experiments begun
113ya- Con Carroll/Wonderland discovered, breeding programs instituted to create races that could settle there
80ya- First Contact With Earth, Onset of the Contact War of Terra vs the Gatelands
77ya- The Greene truce ends the Contact War, weakened Gatelands attacked by neighboring United Gypt Alliance and Zipangu Empire for gate access, Onset of the Gate War/Big Gate, Terran/Gatelands alliance of convenience
76ya- First independent Monstergirl citystate established on Terra by treaty.
72ya- Balkanization of Gypt lands and treaty with Zippangu ends the Gate War, nations allowed limited gate access
65ya- Undead Armies from the distant lands of Mon Grave arrive to try to conquer their way through the gate, fought by a vast coalition. They are uninterested in peace and low level brush wars with remnants continue sporadically to this day. They have all the time they could want, they never die.

How relevant is that to any particular story? Not too much unless you're writing in the time one of those things took place or to take into account something in the common public consciousness. Sorry if that's too much info.
