Not Act Cadenza. Most arcade fighters have a single player story mode, but not one where losing or winning some fights is itself a decision you can intentionally make to guide the story down a different route. Melty Blood is in that sense more of a VN with fighty bits than a fighter with VN bits.

I don't think Shiki tried nearly hard enough to stop the fights between Ciel and Arcueid. It's like he doesn't even try to come up with a solution that doesn't involve siding with one over the other until the suicide threat in Ciel Good.

He really let things get out of hand. Even though Arc and Ciel hate each other, I never really got the impression that they'd put their personal feud over their primary mission of Roa-hunting, or at least that they couldn't be put back on track with a little mediation.
