Fun fact: While Pseudo-Dionysius' celestial hierarchy, which puts archangels as the 2nd lowest order (someone has messed with the wikipedia's article "Hierarchy of Angels" right now, if you search it), is propably the most influential version of the angelic hierarchy, it seems to be generally accepted that the many famous named angels, like Michael and Gabriel, who are usually called archangels, are actually at the highest orders , if not on a whole different order of their own (like the seven "holy" angels, in the Book of Enoch).
