I do highly recommend boxing, there's a unique quality to it that gives a very fulfilling rush. You might also discover something about yourself you didn't expect once you've taken a few good hits and learned to throw a real punch. Even if you don't compete or even spar, the training alone can be a lot of fun.

I wouldn't want to spar with my waifu but being able to relate and knowing what to do to spoil her after an MMA match is really nice. Any martial artist or boxer would love you forever if you know how to give a proper thigh massage.
