It's an old method I used back when I first started learning how to color stuff. I didn't have a workflow for color so I looked up a tutorial for it on yt and one process that I really liked was Marc Brunet's. This is the video I watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MndJKaMQACY

I was amazed at how cool the stuff I made was coming out (pic related) but soon enough the method showed its flaws and I was having a hard time figuring out how to get the color I wanted onto the canvas. I was spending more time messing around with layer settings and creating gradient maps instead of putting down brush strokes so I decided to change my ways. I dropped that method entirely and instead developed a new one that I picked up from studying and watching one of my favourite artists work. It's really intuitive and works wonders, too. I can make a tutorial for it if I have time tomorrow
