It sums it up kinda well

Just like anon said the "silly horror" is the premise of the early parts of the series, and it's what got people into it. The middle part of the plot when everyone in gensokyo just kills each other feels like some edgy action-thriller shit with some unnecessary lore that nobody asks for.
The post-gensokyo part is just a gundam series where everyone fucking dies in the end (they kinda do here anyway). And now in part 8 we just got some moral/philosophical struggle between Koish and Yukari.
I have to say the new art style fits current direction plot is going though.

Also the story is pretty much finished anyway
It should end with everyone dying from the moon and earth uniting
