Here's a sutra(actually sutta but in English the Indian Sanskrit version is the one used) called the Brahmajāla Sutta that goes into the general rules of what the devout should be aware of. I'll link the wikipedia article but I'll post the most important parts of their view on the past and how Gods/misunderstood spiritual premonitions make people believe that the Gods can be omniscient and/or ever-lasting and so on.
