I was kind of expecting something in the FD, but we got nothing. I'd have much rather seen M teasing a flustered Mary than some background story of the worst pairing (Churchill and Viola). On the other hand, we got an adorable story with Angie and Howard so that made up for it if only by a little bit, I suppose.

Agreed. While you can easily see something stirring up in Mary, another part of her dislikes him for the cold way in which he treats people, amongst other things. She noticeably cooled on him after the Jane Doe incident.

I think something between them could probably work, at some point in time. There were a lot of little things which pointed to that. Their mutual love of the Count of Monte Cristo, and Mary being surprised at how (comparatively) kindly he treated the children.
