Well if it makes you feel any better I don't think it's BLS outright, just Zakk Wylde as part of Ozzy's live band.

Not all songwriters are singers or musicians. Not all musicians or singers are songwriters.

Besides, the "sincerity" of the emotions in the music is in the eyes (or ears, technically) of the beholder :^) Is that not what art is?

I don't get it.

Do you think it's mandatory for metal vocalists to also be playing instruments?

There are tons of metal singers that do only just that. Meshuggah, Cannibal Corpse, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, System of A Down, Judas Priest, Slipknot, Iron Maiden, etc. Bands both new-ish and old, they have a guy whose job is to sing the songs, not to play any instruments.

This is the exact same thing, except that there's one main vocalist & two back up singers - and they know how to dance.

As far as I'm concerned the overall babymetal sound is exactly still the same. They had only 3 new songs on their album: Gimme Chocolate was your regular fun techno-pop-metal mix, 4 no uta was essentially iine with reggae instead of electronic dance music and Akumu No Rondo was just another Akatsuki.

They haven't even released a full proper album yet, wait a while before you start lamenting how they sold out or lost their roots.

idol music is nothing like western pop music. Marty Friedman really explains it well.

Personally the wannabe-musician in me really appreciates the juxtaposition of two polar opposites.

Something like rap-metal has been done for two decades already and it's not like those two genres are completely different. They tend to be dark and brutal and meant for marginal youth. Same with punk-metal and even metal-brostep.

However pop and metal are water and oil, fire and ice, there's just no way that those two should cohesively mix but babymetal has done it again and again.

Well, she's learning to play at least. I doubt she'll be taking over Takayoshi Ohmura in the live shows or shredding out a 5-minute solo anytime soon.

From the one music video where they don't even try to pretend to know how to play electric guitar for like 20 seconds?

eh, sure. I've seen the youtube comments, there's always that one guy who's like "NOW HOLD ON A NEW YORK MINUTE ARE THEY ACTUALLY PLAYING I THINK SHENANIGANS ARE TAKING PLACE"

Yeah, all of the band members are excellent in their own right.

I'll lose my shit if Moa ever actually starts to play along with them.
