There are many important materials that can be obtained from the nether, but the most important is Netherite. These are the "diamonds" of the nether. It is located at the 11 block level, just like diamonds, and is extremely rare.

Netherite is primarily used to "upgrade" diamond gear. Netherite armor provides the same defense as diamond, but it's more durable. Netherite weapons do more damage than diamond weapons, and Netherite tools work faster than diamond tools, and of course are more durable. The most important feature is that Netherite armor and gear does not burn in lava, and floats to the top. So you can travel into the nether without fear that you will lose your important gear. Of course Netherite armor is not as pretty, but form follows function.

One important device that can be built with netherite is a Lodestone. When a compass is clicked on it, it becomes the focal point of that compass. Using loadstones you can navigate the minecraft world much easier.

To build the optimum railroad, you cannot have any walls or ceilings close to your minecart.

Your minecart is driven by "powered rails". These are special tracks that use redstone power to accellerate your cart. After sitting in a minecart, you can start your journey with a switch to power the redstone.

Redstone torches provide the power to the rails, simply but them next to the rails and they will be powered.
To maintain 100% speed, you need to place a powered rail every 26 blocks. Powered rails are more expensive, so you must use them more sparingly.

Going uphill, you want either 1 powered rail every 4 blocks, or 2 powered rails every 8 blocks.
Usually you will start and end a rail line with a set of 3 powered rails.

Railroads can go smoothly along diagonals, if you place them in a diagonal pattern.
