Gensokyo is just an alternate ethereal dimension that only exists because of japanese collective fear of youkai, there are many like it all over the world as long as there are people, and it often borders and collides with other "gensokyos" from time to time (an interaction between american "gensokyo" and Gensokyo was recorded in wild and horned hermit)
