In the recent years they had huge measures to throttle down U18 idols, public otaku fandom and school girls working in maid cafes or handing out flyers from the public because they are afraid of Uncle Sam wagging the finger during the Olympics. I wish I could find the article with one of the main execs of the Olympic opening/closing ceremony where he literally said that a lot of propositions for the ceremony were 'too embarrassing' to be shown to foreigners.
