I have not read the manga yet, they say they explain in more detail the Sayo mentality there. She always avoided killing Battler, letting the explosion at the end. George wanted kids (which she can not have since she's a man) and she could not love Jessica (he does not have a penis because of the cliff fall) I think she felt that her only hope was her knight in a white horse.
