Realize that big things like logirl and fureshu archives, or DVD rips archive etc; These things do already exist or will son materialize. Your biggest contribution then is to get your own copy of the whole thing to to properly preserve it for a long time, as well to provide it when needed by someone. It would be meaningless to come together to build something and the rely on just 1 or few guys to maintain it. Is a high risk.

If you want to actively work on things that need manual labor. I can provide a list of news sites that need to be milked if still alive, or tracked down in (archives and fan copies) if the site is dead
