Something that's hardly ever paid attention to is just how powerful otohime are. Ryu can make it rain for days, provided they have a mate to fuel them. Otohime though can just outright alter sea currents and cause tsunamis.

Still, I bet if we ever get a leviathan or other sea dragon she'll get more respect/attention than the otohime.

The fire is no doubt magical to make it safer or contain it, but its not like things can't burn underwater in real life either.
