Mahoyo was better, not just in terms of the story, but everything also looked better and the... what's the word? 'Framing' of the characters was way more innovative and refreshing. Nothing in Nu-Tsukihime reaches the level of Mahoyo having character sprites shown as reflections on the table surface, or the over-shoulder shots of Aoko or what have you. Which is odd, because Mahoyo is the older VN of the two.
I can't honestly say that Tsukihime remake was outright butchered, and many things there were an improvement compared to the original, but some vital ones were lacking. Of the newcomer characters only Noel had proven to be satisfactory, everyone else is either 'Meh' like Mario, or outright detrimental to enjoyment of the story like doctor Arach. None of them were necessary to be included.
The best adaptation of Tsukihime still remains the manga from twenty fucking years ago.
