It’s essentially that, to make the player more special while keeping him as normal as possible. It can be in a land of fairies where humans are rare, or (You) are one of the last survivors, or go back to old school harem where the MC is the only human in a monster school or the only male capable of operating a gundam etc.
Rarely they bother explaining further the gender disparity if there is, though when they do shit starts getting morbid. Like in SEQUEL series where a chain of bad choices led to a society filled with women and few men in a dying world because turns out while men can’t properly use magic they produce it.
Genshin and FGO avert that in spite of being gachas but instead you can have a main character of either gender while still being special because in Genshin he is a world traveller and in FGO the last survivor. You have a cast that can instead captalize in either gender the player can be with a selection of men and women to interact.
This in turn however can lead to shitstorms with the player base when characters can have relationships with each other not being the MC. Which is why FGO players dread Sakurai and Nasu can be a double edged sword.
The opposite happened in Grandblue Fantasy oddly enough where there was going to be a collab with some idol brand and the audience of that game did NOT want those girls interacting with a man, so the game actually recommended the player to switch to girl for the duration of the event. Not like it stopped the shitstorm.

Particularly Fairy Britain I doubt you can read about it as pleased seeing as Fate’s wikia has been shit for years. All their players are relying on this guy https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLax9JmtqMNMKq3n8SvVE0qWBKDFf2hh7L doing an youtube playlist that is translating the latest chapter. But I doubt you’d understand most of what’s going on so:

Long story super super super short is that King Arthur’s time was when that would decide if humans would be the dominant species or the power could be handled to the fairies, and the story takes place invading the timeline Fairies won cause it’s threatening our timeline.
Long story about fairies short is that they are ALL human-centric but just like you have fairies that need to help humans to validate their existence, there are those that need to hurt them as well. And all fairies are willing to murder and backstab for their goals, even if they are doing so in the name of greater good. Humans carry the inherent kindness and generosity they lack, which makes us both incredibly endearing and vulnerable to them. Likewise with boring long lifespan our culture is wondrous to them and objects and manuscripts salvaged from our timeline is sought for a high price.
Long story about the fairy kingdom short is that this isn’t a black and white fight between “Good Fairies” and “Evil Fairies”. Queen Morgan’s rule has its good and bad, and even the fairies shooting for coexistence because they genuinely believe humans shouldn’t be mistreated and are equals to them are also psychos that will tear down their opposition in cold blood.
