Around the year 300 the Christian Fathers decided that Jesus was born on December 25th. the Nordic distinguishes itself from the rest of the world by celebrating his birthday on December 24th.

The Nordic custom has its roots in the time before the mechanical clock. A new day began at sunset - instead of today at midnight. In the poem Havamal from the Middle Ages called it, for example: "In the evening, the day live." The Scandinavians kept to this condition and therefore celebrate Christmas the evening before 25 December.
