and so fit applying and "having friends".

You seem to be oversimplifying things by assuming that having friends, past or present, negates everything else. My friends from high school are old friends, and my contact is pretty much none. I haven't talked in months, maybe even a year, save for calling on their birthday or a holiday and hearing how busy and successful they have become, and only telling them that I've done pretty much nothing. And my current friends are people I would have never met had I not been thrown to them, and assured that they're nerds and such (and they are, to some extent, though I'm still uncomfortable talking about anything normal with them, and actually I probably can't talk about anything normal) and that I can play D&D with them. They're still strangers, more or less. I only see them for D&D sessions.

So when I say "friends", my usage is very liberal. Very. I'm not going to meet them at coffee shops, or drinking at bars with them. And if I have to be doing that with them to call them friends, then I guess I have no friends. Thanks for that revelation.

Pic related because my cat is the only thing that could qualify even remotely as a friend. No, that's not my cat. I don't have a camera.
