The tsukuyami are basically just stand-ins for the actual threats. The way they're handled is kind of odd though, since they initially they're played out as trash mobs and this even carries over to a bunch of side-stories, but then later on in the main plot they're treated in a much serious way. They characters can't even mention their name because it's like acknowledging and solidifying their existence.

Still, this also ties into how Mei teases stuff for a long time without going forward. The enemy IS some kind of witch or god. The end of the Oyashiro Rika story (the 83 Rika alt with Witch eyes, without the miko outfit from Sotsu) has the villain in the sea of fragments (no, sprite or name, just "???") going on about the nature of Mei's fragments and how Rika can't deal with them (which apparently are some kind of forgery where their fate can't be changed). This villain also probably popped up taking Hanyuu's form to tease Kazuho in the anniversary event and in a couple of other side-stuff, but the main plot seems to be nowhere close to actually going there yet, so any kind of real reveal seems unlikely.

>while the plot seems okay until they try to retell the exact same daily situations that the original cast explored over a decade ago.
To be fair, that's kind of the point of a lot of the character side-story stuff. Mei's actual main plot barely has any slice of life in comparison, so you get the antics thrown into goofy alts.

>They have had collaborations with several very popular anime franchises yet have all the failings of every other shitcan gacha that will likely disappear whenever their server renting time is up with their half baked princess re;connect clone. They don't even have Live2D models. That just screams doomed to fail from the beginning.

Mei's rankings are rather stable, which should allow it to survive for a long time considering the low budget. All the text + pretty card art seems to be enough to keep people around even without actual voiced story or pretty graphics.
