http://mangagamer.wordpress.com/2010/01/05/fonts/

>So we at MangaGamer have noticed that our users seem to be disappointed with our current font selection, and we are considering making a change to remedy that.

>While we did consider programming an option which would allow users to select their own font, we had to decline this option due to the nature of these games. With many of the fonts users would be able to select on a standard Western version of Windows, there is an issue where the character width and spacing causes lines to exceed the display space provided by the text box or the screen. This would result in parts of words or sometimes whole words being omitted because they wind up being displayed outside of the display area available in these games.

>This means that if we are to change the way our games work with fonts, will have to change which font we use. As it stands, there are several limitations to our range of selection. First of all, the fonts must be able to work with the text boxes and display space available to our games. This means that fonts with large widths must be ruled out. Secondly, we have to make sure that it is free for our company to make use of the fonts. This limits us to the fonts that fonts that come pre-installed on all Windows machines. However, there is an exception. As we have noticed, Fontspace has several fonts which are free for corporate use.

>So, with these limitations in mind, we have compiled a poll for our users to voice their opinions. You can find the poll here at the MangaGamer forum. We will run let the poll run for about two weeks, after which time we will review the results. If there is a clear majority of users who favor one font, it is highly likely that you will see a new font being used for our future releases.

From the MG site

>The two titles that were put off from the site, "My Sex Slave is a Classmate" and "Suck My Dick or Die" will be available for purchase again starting this weekend.
>We apologize for the inconvinience this may have caused.

>- "My Sex Slave is a Classmate" October 16th
>- "Suck My Dick or Die" October 30th

And they do have My Sex Slave is a Classmate up for sale now.

I wonder what changed, figured they were dropped because of rape problems in Japan.

So Higurashi was delayed for quality reasons. I suppose it is good that MangaGamer now actually cares about quality.

http://novelnews.net/2009/08/02/when-they-translate/

>Meanwhile, after some correspondence with MangaGamer staff, it appears that they have modified their usual workflow for translation. Instead of having a single editor and single proofreader follow the translation stage, there will be now a few proofreaders who will each read through the entire script. In fact, the rumor is that they’ve also managed to hire a well-known bilingual proofreader who is also a hardcore fan of the Higurashi games.

According to EvoSpace's IRC chatting the other day, this is very likely to be kj1980, the person who did the TIPS threads over at AnimeSuki.

>The main entity that brought together Higurashi and MangaGamer is apparently HOBIBOX, a seemingly new member of an increasing number of companies behind MangaGamer. HOBIBOX, a multifaceted company with divisions that work on things like PC games as well as anime songs and drama CDs, has actually been working with 07th Expansion, the doujin circle that created Higurashi, for five years now. Some fruits of this collaboration include a port of Higurashi to the mobile phone in Japan, as well as a collection of drama CDs corresponding to each of the arcs. They were also at Anime Expo 2009 in side the MangaGamer booth, selling various music CDs and physical discs of the Japanese version of Higurashi. Before Anime Expo, HOBIBOX, not knowing about the fan translation for Higurashi, approached MangaGamer and sublicensed them rights to produce a commercial English release. This deal was sealed in June of 2009, literally weeks before the announcement at Anime Expo 2009 in early July.

HOBIBOX actually has a lot of connections in Japan, so seeing them working with MangaGamer is a good thing.

Informative post by EvoSpace (works for Circus, involved with MangaGamer) about Shuffle

>I just finished my run of SHUFFLE! and here's my two cents.

>First of all, this game's rather short and shallow compared to many of the games out there, but at the same time, you could say those games are too long and tedious while SHUFFLE! is straight to the point. The music and story is pretty decent. Although there are some awkward details here and there, the CGs are top class in the industry. I also liked the little sound and graphical effects that they put in for entertainment.

>In conclusion this is a great game for a first timer of this genre and casual fans. If you like the artstyle, then you won't regret it. On the other hand, if you are looking for something deep, you won't find it in here.

>(quoting another post) Also, if there's a word from Mangagamer about some effort regarding the better quality of translation, it would be appreciated..

>The translation is getting there. There were far less errors than Kira Kira when I was checking it.
>(But you can also say that the amout[typo] of text in Kira Kira's was MUCH greater)

>Now they're just debating if they should keep the Japense honorifics (-san, -kun, Sempai, etc.) or not. I think they should, but one of the proof reader says they should replace it with equivalent nicknames and make it sound natural in English. I played it in this version, and it didn't feel that weird, although of course it's still kept in the voices.

Navel, Circus, 07th Expansion, Nexton, OVERDRIVE, and BaseSon if they can get around the game engine problem

All decent companies, but who else would you like to see MangaGamer partner with?

In an attempt to get info about future titles from MangaGamer, it seems their current general response is the following (2 e-mails, this was one, other e-mail was close to this)

>If you have any title to buy on line, pls keep sending the request to studios. If they have a lot of requests from fans in English speaking countries, they will ask us to cooperate.

It appears they want people to bug the Japanese studios so they will work with MangaGamer.

MangaGamer Anime Expo Panel Thread
This panel will be in a few hours (10pm Pacific time), and a live transcript will be located here shortly after it begins
http://bayoab.info/live/live2.php

What we have got so far from them these past couple days
1.) Higurashi has been offically announced. On their website they made the following announcement earlier today
>04 Jul 2009 'Higurashi when they cry'

>We proudly anouce that we have started the localozation of 'Higurashi when they cry'. We have been getting a lot of requests from MangaGamer's fans to localize the title. We are very excited and happy to be able to relaese this best seller title from MangaGamer.com.

>We target to release the title by the end of October. Please stay close with our release schedule.

2.) Their Demo disc included a buy 1 get 1 free code, info on Shuffle (saying a summer release date), and demos of Da Capo, Suika, and Kira Kira

3.) At the convention they did not confirm yet, but did have stuff related to Shuffle and Koihime Shin Koihime Musou on day one, Shuffle has the stuff on the demo disc as evidence, and Koihime Musou had BaseSon listed on their promotional ad. There was also Circus stuff from DC:II and Valkyrie Complex, so it would be no surprise to see one or more of these being released. Also, Circus in the past indeciated Da Capo Plus Communications was likely to follow the first two titles.

4.) Speaking of the promotional ad, companies listed
Circus
Hobibox
Navel
NEXTON
OVERDRIVE
BaseSon (and seperatly BaseSon Spice)
Liquid
Nomad
Portion
Score
Lusterise
Tactics (and seperatly Tactics Latte)
After this, a bunch of groups that just appear to be sponsers, not going to list them, the promotional pic is in this thread if you want to see >>2888192

It is important to point out that 07Expansion is NOT on there, yet Higurashi has been announced, so this isn't necessarly a limit on what may be announced.

Jast and MangaGamer will be making new announcements in the next week.

Chose the following that would wish to see

MangaGamer- 1 company partnership (access to all that companies games) and 2 other H games

Jast- any two H games

from Reikon on the MangaGamer forums, why their releases tend to be of low quality

>Work with MG is always rushed, at least compared to the Jast companies. Translation and editing at MG usually takes about 2 months (and that's for long games). Jast seems to take that long for their beta phase alone. So I doubt Kira Kira was especially rushed compared to the rest of their games.

>And the problem with MG is that they don't have any standards. There's nobody that sets a level of quality required by the translators and editors. Whatever those people churn out is pretty much what gets released.

Next week, MangaGamer will be at anime expo, and it is likely that they will be announcing future titles. I expect to see official announcements of Edelweiss Eiden Fantasia and Kira Kira Curtain Call.

What would you like to see them get their hands on? Personally I would love to see them get a partnership with Age and announce Muv-Luv/Muv-Luv Alt.
