However, she didn’t need any misunderstandings now. Yukari herself trusted her with this mission and she had to postpone today’s training with Marisa with the excuse of a job coming up to exterminate some troublesome feral. She felt bad about that lie, and she didn’t want to get off on the wrong foot with Kasen if she was to hear her problems. With that reasoning in mind, she reached into the small bag she carried with her.

Hana had pulled out her secret weapon, a steak rubbed with a mix of light spices, and fried dumplings with fish paste inside of it. The miko-in-training, having prepared these treats beforehand called out to the sky and concealing grasses, “Please wait a moment! I’m not a bad person, please take this and call your master for me!”

Hana placed the offerings on the ground, and neither her intuition or senses told her of an attack coming, yet she still quickly backed up from the two piles of food as the animals appeared before her. One a large and fearsome tiger who’s oversized jaws looked like it could bite her clean in two if it wished. The other was a large eagle the size a man and whose talons looked like they could rend a head of cattle with ease.

Both of which made Hana shutter to think of what could’ve happened if she had to fight them seriously.

Time flowed past in a drug fueled haze, you were more or less conscious shortly after your stay at Eientei but the medicines prescribed to you kept you in the dark. It was just as well really, you were able to lift your head as you lay in solitude on a futon provided to you and what you saw you realized with belated horror was your body. You were covered in bandages and had casts on your leg where your knee was damaged and one on your arm where your tortured fracture was beaten, your head still swam when you moved it undoubtedly a side effect of your injuries and the drugs and it didn't take much to realize that your head was bound as well. Your broken body wasn't the worst part however, despite the drugs making you sleep often and heavily you were still interrupted by nightmares of flashes of red and white, the cold face of the women you loved chilling as a January ice bath, the pain given to you in those dreams felt real enough and worst yet it didn't wake you up like you wished it would nor did the drugs in your system dull the dream pains.
Eventually you were able to pull yourself together well enough to move your head without getting dizzy and you soon took in your surroundings, it was a large Japanese styled room with tasteful adornments if not a bit spartan in nature and you figured it must be a guest room. The window that gave you a limited view to the outside world was large and circular and carried a pleasantly warm breeze even when the stars were out which always smelled of spring in full bloom. Which now that you realized it was odd as It should be the beginnings of autumn after all, you racked your head for answers but nothing but flashes of pink came to your mind through the haze of cloudy memories. It was no use to try you quickly realized as you lay there in the dark of the night, wherever you were and whoever was giving you shelter would reveal themselves soon enough. The sun rose soon, casting its warming glow and you swore you heard the sounds of movement outside your room though you saw no one and soon a smell of food drifted into the room and it was then for the first time in the hours of consciousness you had that it dawned on you that your belly was empty entirely. Soon enough the person behind your caretaking walked down the hallway and into your room carrying a bowl of food, the pink haired "hermit" you once got on so well with, Kasen Ibaraki.
Before Reimu's attitude soured along with your relationship Kasen was a common face to see around the shrine and you often took tea with her and made her dinner rather often, eventually like the rest of your friends they stopped coming around once Reimu started scaring people off and you realized that like with most of your old friends you genuinely missed her company. "ah... Kasen? is that you?" you muttered out with only your head and eyes follwing the hermit, Kasen seemed genuinely surprised to see that you've regained consciousness. "Anon-san you're up already? Eirin said it'd be another week before you could wake! I'm impressed of course but don't move will you?" You nodded slowly at her advice as she set down sitting by you and gently propping your head onto her lap. "Eh? Kasen? what are you doing?" although you couldn't see her face from your position you heard her voice, slightly amused, "Don't be shy, who do you thinks been caring for you for the past week while you've been unconscious?". The weight of her words seemed to sink in as you became all too aware of your situation and what it entailed you found yourself blushing besides yourself and you heard her giggle, "don't worry~ an inaba nurse gave me a crash course on how to take care of the bedridden, I assure you I didn't stare while I nursed you!". That did little to calm your embarrassment neither did her spoon-feeding you which only compounded your embarrassment, you think the food is good but honestly you couldn't tell... And the situation didn't get better after the feeding was done, after all in the morning one needs to use the restroom, you'll have to ask Eirin for treatment that can seal memories later because despite Kasen insisting that, "its not much different from taking care of my animals when they're sick!" you still felt like you lost something precious...
The remaining days were spent recovering, you tried sleeping as much as you can and trying to fight back the embarrassment of being cared for like a newborn by Kasen and by the end of that week you were finally able to take your first cautious steps out of bed, with the aid of the beautiful Hermit you were finally able to make it around yourself and thus able to regain a modicum of your pride. You weren't able to make it around farther then the walls of her house however nor do anything for her which made you feel rather guilty but you bore with it and enjoyed the moments of peace and healed. Still you couldn't keep your mind off of your wife, regardless of how bad things were you still loved her dearly after all.
