I'll live

first and foremost...START with those Aki Sasaki vids. you may not be able to fkn enjoy once you've experienced newer/higher quality stuff...
>"guide" to Afesta
fk it I'll do it again, with some new findings

there isn't much to figure out
>log in
>buy video
>download
no DRM, no bullshit. if you want to be an enlightened sir - their downloads can get kind of slow. fire aria2c up, have it "listen on RPC", and use a browser extension like "Aria2 Explorer" to intercept .mp4 download links. you can let it do e.g. 5 thread downloads and make it go brrrr.
IMO, now that the FANZA decrypt-a-thon has begun, it's only worth it (paying Afesta) when they have something in a higher res, like those DPVR videos. would've said FSVR too but you can get them off SLR gratis with a sub or just buy it from them or from FS Knights directly, usually cheaper, way cheaper at FS when on sale.
sometimes Afesta is still super useful for SODVR, when they have the fucking AHO RETARD FIRE HIM at the camera/in the editing room that ends up turning the final product into an artifacty/blocky/oversharpened disgusting looking mess.

If you're allergic to autistic video talk, please stop reading here, other sirs. But if you've got a picture or WEBM of a JAVfu in a server room, I need it.

Afesta QRD for quality on $currentyear videos + FANZA comparison:
>[4KHQ] = 4096x2048 15~20 Mbps HEVC CBR
useful for those SOD vids affected by said moron's touch. when DMM and SOD had their little spat in ~late 2021-early 2022, all of the titles Mr. Zhang was releasing came from Afesta. guess which titles are the ONLY ones I didn't replace with decrypted FANZA downloads?
>check FANZA
>50 GB, fucking 60+ Mbps, grainy, noisy, yucky
>look at currently stored Afesta version
>one third the size
>it's not like you can make shit look WORSE
>keep fes ver
most of the titles afflicted by that have reviews on FANZA complaining about the fig paste quality too

>[4K Takumi/Artisan/whatever] = ~25 Mbps HEVC CBR
>prob better than a FANZA streamrip
>can be bigger or smaller than a FANZA decrypt since it's CBR...
that one used to be anywhere from 30-40 Mbps for older stuff when it was still fisheye. I can now say with full confidence that it was never ever worth it for a single studio with those older titles. the FANZA streamrip was fine, and the decrypt is even smaller.
getting a peek at the metadata for the master files indicates some of them were 2160p 30-40 Mbps H.264. i.e. the festa downloads were hella hontou BLOAT and usually still soft looking...I kept exactly ONE. VRKM-139. Kanna can squat on an extra 10 GB.

>DPVR 6K and 8K
>fkn 60 Mbps kek
bordering on master file tier - and actually higher bitrate than master files from some western studios. the video previews for those are actually representative of the product. can't say anything about the quality (bitrate isn't everything), haven't watched, but at least the delivery method won't be a factor.

TL Notes: CBR = Constant Bitrate
FANZA doesn't CBR anything.
VR streamrips are 4096x2048 x264 CRF18 with a 32Mbps VBV cap.
"UHQ" (2160p normally, 2560/2700p for some bizarre older stuff, 2700p for 8K titles) downloads are (I'm guessing) 2 pass VP9 VBR with the only limit being the theoretical maximum for VP9 at that resolution - 150 Mbps - this can create hilariously large files when there's an issue with the camera...
"""8K""" downloads are x265 but with a stanky ass crf of 23.5
for comparison, SLR, who has a rep for "bitrate too low wtf" - uses crf=15.0 / vbv-maxrate=30000 - so the VBV usually ends up clamping it at 30 Mbps with slight peaks for keyframes. FANZA has their VBV set to 50000 but they never even get close at a CRF that high
