Hi /jp/!

First time poster, this is probably a common request.

I want to visit Japan during the summer, is there anything I must do? Anywhere I must visit? I consider myself interested in history, is checking out the old ruins worth it? Should I just nerd out?

What city should I start from?

Most importantly, how hard is it if you do not speak the language? Would it be possible to get through if I carried a card saying "I am an ignorant Irish person, forgive me"?
