Catching it, she began flipping through the book, carefully analyzing the content.

"And how have you been Chen-chan?" Goro asked.

"Good!" I answered, surprised at being addressed so casually.

"Don't scare the poor girl like that." Takane began, shutting the notebook. "We may be able to change gears on a dime, but children shouldn't have to get used to that kind of thing. Anyway, can I keep this for a bit? Need to copy a few things down." She asked, gently shaking the book as she did.

"Suit yourself, just don't read my personal affairs." Goro answered with a shrug.

Takane-san eyed the two for a moment, but simply shook her head. "I caught up with Kogasa by the way, she's agreed to help out."

"Oh really. Will I get a 50% commission fee on that?" He asked with a smile.

"15%. you don't know what I had to do to get that umbrella to sign up." She stood firm.

"Bah, stingy. I'll take 20% and we'll call it even. Good enough to know that she's not wasting her talents, that girl is so needy to be useful, yet to stubborn to do what's she's good at. Is Yukari in? We need to speak with her urgently."

Wait, Umbrella? That sounded familiar.

"Yeah, she's in her office. Be careful, she might ask about the commotion." Takane-san said, jutting a finger down the hall.

"Thanks. Oh, Chen-chan, will you do something for us?" Goro asked, turning to me.

I felt my ears flick in curiosity.

"Stay out of trouble, all right?" He smiled, before walking with Seija down the hall.

Takane-san sighed. "Well, I'm going to try to wrangle a new guard rotation. Chen, make yourself busy why don't you ? I'm sure some Festival preparations could use a helping hand." She told me before walking off herself.

So there I was, left alone in the entrance area, surrounded by only the odd patron and the befuddled Tanuki door greeter, who, just as quickly as she had gotten back up to her station, hit the deck once again as a red streak came thundering through the door and crashing beside me.

"Did I beat them here?" Flandre asked, panting and huffing as she did.

As the shock wore off and the confusion cleared I shook my head. "Seija and Goro-san just came through here."

"Dang it! No fair!! They cheated and got a head-start!!!" She pouted, stomping her feet as she did.

"You were, racing them?" I asked.

"Yeah! We were all gonna come back from the mansion together, but they just suddenly dissapeared!" She explained.

This was all so strange. How had those two beaten Flandre here? What was that weird aura they were giving off? Why had Goro acted all scary to the captain? and maybe, most strange, of all, why hadn't Seija said anything besides to stop the fighting? Seija, who everyone told me was fowl mouthed and always causing trouble? A plan starts to form in my head.

"Flandre-chan have you ever spied on someone?" I asked.

The vampire tilted her head. "No? Is that a fun sort of thing to do?"

"Yeah! It's like playing the rogue! We just gotta be quiet and follow those two, without them knowing, and we can figure out the mystery!" I said excitedly."

"Sounds fun! Do we stab them at the end?" Flan excitedly asked.

"If you find out they cheated, sure!" I told her.

It might be wrong, watching people behind their back, but it was for a good reason! Maybe we could learn something that could help us stop the fighting.
