Bad timing.

AKB was on the rise at the time she was first elected to senbatsu. While she appealed to the hardcores, she didn't fit the image that management was using to grow the brand. As such, management only allowed her in the main event when control was given to the fans.

I wouldn't really say she was buried though. She was consistently in Undergirls in non-election singles, got several CMs, was a major player in AKB0048, and retained a large fanbase throughout her career. She was sort of like the group's top mid-carder.
