That just means she has codependency issues in general. We can already see her starting to develop a similar dynamic with Keiichi in Tatarigoroshi. So Ryukishi can just claim that Satoko transferred her dependency to what's-his-face as she grew older instead of clinging to Rika.

>Satoko was already crying her eyes out at the thought of a world without Rika
It's completely normal to do that about anyone you're very close with regardless of codependency. She similarly breaks down in the epilogue of the onikakushi manga after learning all the other kids had died.

And Satoko's whole arc was about forgiving herself for her past dependency on Satoshi and learning to rely on others for help. Sha HATED herself for being codependent on Satoshi, to the point where she could endure multiple stab wounds while keeping enough presence of mind to declare that she was no longer that weak. It makes no sense for her to fall right back into her former issue when it took so much effort to just get her to reach out her hand and say "help me"

Speaking of small changes, I really liked this little addition they made to the end of Onikakushi. Getting to see the reactions to Keiichi, Rena, and Mion's deaths adds a lot.
