They are charming. Ange is not supposed to look like a super model, she's an angsty teenager with average looks. And that's what makes her so sexy.

Stop defending that hideous pachinko travesty. You know it's disgusting to look at. One can get used to Ryu's art and eventually find it charming. I fucking love them. But the pachinko sprites will never be good looking even if they are the only ones you ever see. There's nothing to like about them.

Oh, I need to bitch about this because I get tired of seeing it all the time.

>important plot devices in Higurashi, like the whole Hinamisawa syndrome thing).
There is no plot device. The thing about the Hinamizawa syndrome is that it subtly effects three people in the story but none of their actions were completely irrational. Every single one of their actions, from K1 to Rena to Mion, are given their first person monologue for every single one of their actions.
From K1 deciding to kill his friends to Rena deciding to blow up her school, you read their monologue and they're entirely rational the entire way.
Ryukishi, at the end of the manga, says that the Hinamizawa syndrome is more a metaphor of people simply not talking to each other and letting tragedy develop. Tragedies are always born out of miscommunication and silence and Higurashi is no exception. Hell, it's the entire theme.
While it is the reasoning for why people are turning insane, it isn't the cause. Everyone has the Hinamizawa syndome, but not everyone turns insane. Anyway can decide to not talk and kill everyone, just like everyone can talk and solve their problems with their friends.

Personally, I love Higurashi a bit more sometimes than Umineko because it goes into cynicism about how friendship is shit, like everyone believe, then rises out of its ashes to become optimistic. Optimism that destroys cynicism is always great.
