It was done for someones birthday (person on the right from viewers perspective).

I imagined them being lost in the woods without any food left, with the girl on the left bringing a hunted-down slime as birthday present and the birthday kid having trouble to outright deny the possible poisonous slime out of politness.

These are cute!
The partly strong and in other areas soft or even no AA looks a bit odd and the bow and boob area looks a little bit out of place.

You did a good job only "dithering" on places it looks good stylisticly. Pulling off good dithering with modern crisp displays is pretty hard.

I think the colors are fine, with what exactly do you have trouble in regards to palettes?
