Correct, but normal strains do that, only virulent strains do. You again missed the point.

This is a host-dependent issue, in other words this is due to a malfunctioning immune system rather than a specific pathogen, you're now entering the realm of autoimmune diseases which is unrelated to our discussion. I could however write dozens of walls of text explaining the immune system and how it interacts with pathogens if that's what you want.
