I don't like Amesame, despite having no real reason not to (it's not like either of them are my oshi), and I think I get why now.
I don't give a single shit about the ship on its own. However, I really do find their sororal bond incredibly compelling. I dislike how much the /u/ shit is pushed specifically because it undermines the dynamic that I actually feel makes the two of them work so well.
Amelia and Gura shouldn't be lovers, they should be sisters, and I think they're at their strongest as a duo when they forgo the blatant /u/ shit and just interact naturally. At least, that's how I feel.

Honest question, why do GurAmeshizos care? It is pretty obvious to anyone who interacts with other human beings on a regular basis that Gura and Ame are just very good friends. It's fun to ship them and it makes a lot of cool fan art; that's what shipping is about after all. But why do /u/shizos take the next step that no other pairing makes, and project your feelings onto their actions to try and "prove" that they are lovers? Why does this ship attract so many schizos and why are they so passionate about proving that it's "real"? I just don't get it.
