You're way better than I was if you can already get to patchy without dying. There's a trick to the lasers. By the time the first ones begin to disappear you have to already be moving in the other direction. I haven't played EoSD in a while but if I remember correctly they stop being lethal just a moment after they begin to shrink. So by the time they disappear, you should already have been moving in the opposite direction.
I could have saved myself that explanation and just told you to watch a youtube video but some people are stubborn and like doing shit themselves. I'm one of them. Some spells are gimmicks though and you gotta swallow your pride, like with the final boss of Mountain of Faith.
