I was aware of it for a while and kept forgetting to read it, now that I did I'm somewhat confused why it isn't more popular. But then I suppose it's only available in its original form, no shiny high production sprites/art like in Higu/Umi PS ports and no voice so that probably puts most of the people off nowadays. There are usually things that I dislike here and there in R07s works, doesn't make me like them any less but it's just something I got used to, and to my surprise I haven't stumbled upon anything like that in Higanbana, I've enjoyed it thoroughly start to finish.I found most of the stories very relatable so maybe that's why.
If I had to pick a favorite it's definitely a tie between Reaper of the 13th step and My best friend.Though they're favorites more so out of personal reasons. Reading some of the things in those two stories felt extremely eerie, it was hitting too close to home.
Before the spider lilies bloomed was an excellently depressing way to finish it. The ending song in the bonus chapter was beautiful, but so was all of the ost, aside from the great creepy tracks. Grim, depressing and hauntingly beautiful would be the best way I'd describe the whole experience.
