>The west is pushing 3D hard and tons of people treat 2D games/tv shows like they are some old Retro relics, unless it's family guy or something like it of course.
Yeah. France seems to be the last bastion of 2d animation in the west, and I hope they keep at it. Ernest & Celestine was excellent.

>I've always sucked at drawing, and I'm literally in the level of stick figures drawn by 5 year olds. Can I still become a good artist?
Yes.
>I don't plan on making it my job or something but there's just so many things I'd like to draw, and I'm willing to put as much effort as necessary, since I'm used to it (I'm fairly decent at japanese).
Good, because it's a lot.
>The issue is that my skills in drawing are so fucking poor I feel like I should never attempt it.
No one drew something amazing right off the bat. Bresson said of photography that "Your first 10,000 photos are your worst" and probably your first 10,000 drawings will be your worst. /ic/'s sticky isn't amazing, but it can help you out as far as resources go. Keep in mind that you shouldn't just do studies all day erry day - you should be doing them a lot, but don't forget to do things that are fun or you'll burn out fast.
