You need CVL to avoid that and go the fast route, that's why I have Chitose.
She's comparatively fragile (though still a better choice than other CVL) so I put her as flagship. Her damage wasn't very satisfying in first run and I would much prefer starting second shelling with reliable APCI so I decided to turn her into a Reppuu mule. Having only five fighting girls shelling wasn't a problem in the slightest, my fleet often obliterated enemies before they had the chance to shell for the second time.
Another advantage of Reppuu mule CVL is ability to use three bombers on Cranes - this way their overcrits are both super strong and common.
I recommend this setup to everyone.

I'm aware I got somewhat lucky not being sent to east this month but spending just 6/4/5/2 and 19 buckets is amazing.
Sent everyone to 1-1 twice before starting, resparkled Mutsu after second kill. Hotels don't really need morale. There's no reason to use supports, all kills were clean.
