If you want to start out correctly, play Embodiment of Scarlet Devil first. This is the first windows Touhou game, and it's also the most basic game. You'll get a good feel for the rest of the series with this.

If you're just looking for an easy game to start off with, play Imperishable Night first. It's easy as hell, and don't expect the rest of the games to be that easy.

I'm used to the funky hair now, I don't really mind it. But yeah, I'd have to say my favorite characters from TD are Futo and Kyouko.
