Besides, being invite-only defeats the point of a server. If someone wants to make connections right now instead of in 6 months from now when they maybe get noticed by a recruiter then they'll just go somewhere open. If someone is a beginner who needs help learning they'll go find people to teach them now instead of whoring their beg sketches hoping for an invite. If someone is looking for business opportunities they'll go find what's available now. So on and so forth. Also if I'm already comfortable in the servers I'm in why would I be interested in joining a new unfamiliar server?
Being invite only doesn't solve any problems for someone looking for a server (because they can't get in) and it doesn't solve any problems for somebody already in other servers (because they already have what they need). So if the unknown beg can't get in why would they give a shit about the server? If the socialized /int/ is already in servers then why give a shit about yours? If the pro already has enough follows to make their own spinoff why join your club?

I have joined quite a few when i didn't know any better, mostly lurked but left after reading what people were generally saying and talking about.

There are a billion small open servers. Even then being small is only worth a shit if that being small makes the server more enjoyable. There are plenty of invite-only servers with 30 people in them that are completely dead.

Yes, but there's also a limit. Social isolation is one of the most damaging things you can do to your mind short of psychosis-inducing drug abuse. look dude i don't believe in the black and white stuff. i know people irl that are super insane and have dozens of friends. i also know/knew irl people that were perfectly normal and had zero friends. its not just a mental thing its also luck and circumstance. some people had a bad home so they avoided people for a while. some people live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere and the nearest neighbor is literally miles away (one of my friends from high school was like this and he only had friends because he went to public school). some people just have a period where they're insanely busy and drift away from people and then they have to start from scratch.
and also some people weren't always normal and sane and now that they are normal/sane (or trying to be) they want to build a friend group. it'd be kind of lame if people who were dealt a bad hand in life were basically fucked permanently and their only options were be alone forever or off themselves.
