i mean, am i so uncultured that i don't see the supposed "beauty"? I've legit seen paintings made with coal that are better than it.
if anyone can tell me what i'm missing, i'd appreciate it.

Such as?
Mona Lisa is a nice display of Leonardos sfumato technique. I dont think its the best painting in the world. Its still way above average. Because its overrated now doesnt mean you have to underrate it like some contrarian faggot.

Idk nigga do you also think the Pyramids of Giza are boring?

The Giza pyramids are filled with people trying to swindle you out of anything you have and the surrounding city is a literal shithole. No thanks

Fine just stay home then lmao. If you want an answer to the question “Is it ever worth it to go anywhere?” Then no it’s not.

untrue, there's some good places. just not the ones that are popular with normies

>> No.6705244

>>6705073
Nah, you're good.
The thing what triggers normies the most is when someone wrongspeaks;
If the media told everyone you should be wowed by this, but you aren't, it will trigger their anti-wrongthink protocol.
Mona Lisa is mid corporate normie-core at best.
Like Banksy.

He is an actual artist who has values and virtues and creates to send a message, not for the sake of fame/glory/money like most idiots on /ic/. It's a shame that most people don't know what an artist is anymore.

U know most people in history thought it was pretty meh as well until it was stolen and they made a big deal about it.

>> No.6705278

>>6705073
In today's context, it's "meh" but hyped for known reasons.
In a historical context, it's technically impressive; artistically, not much so ("boring" portrait of a nobody. rather humble as a subject).

Those draperies tho.

A small defense: it looks nothing like how it looked like whenit was painted now because leonardo fucked up. Still probably not deserving of the fame but it makes it a bit less weird

An artist is someone who has a message he puts in a picture? Are you trying to say artist are just meme makers? A mere memer?

the prado copy is pretty cool though
Many people might not realize how absolutely groundbreaking some of these old artworks were, compared to other stuff that was done at that time and shortly before. So from that perspective it has historical value. Whether you care about historical value in an artwork is up to you, of course.

>> No.6705724

Sheep mindset with most, some esoteric importance probably is why it's hyped so much.

notice how op did not even list any of the reasons his colleague argued for. he's not here to listen.

true

he spent a whole hour arguing with friends and still can't list even one reason given, he's so closeminded nothing will change him
