Chunie is a hack. the simple fact that this guy has more than 1 character rendered beyond the knee in a pose other than 3/4 staring off to one side already puts him above that piece of shit. Also different body types.

>>6387274
Ignore that faggot telling you to study Chunie's eyes as yours actually have soul and life to them. Biggest advice is to work on sharpness and small details. For example, match the fidelity of things like hands/tail/chest with the same sharpness as your faces and you got some gold tier artwork :3

I meant posting new oc following the initial thread starter. It sets a tone if you just go "NEW THREAD GUYZ" and then expect others to follow up on your copy paste.

In the case of the image I am replying to there are things like bottles and post and pictures taped on the wall to make the environment interesting to look at. What I am asking basically is how did you learn to add stuff like that to make it interesting?

I was eager to make a comic, but now that I actually have to draw new panels, I don't want to do it anymore. The idea has potential, but I don't think I can live up to that potential, because my mindset won't get me very far. This is page one, and I have already copied the same panel three times with minor alterations because I didn't feel like doing another two from scratch. How many pages would I have to do for a finished comic, with what I have in mind? If I continued and persevered, I COULD finish it, but the quality would be abysmal due to my laziness. It would just be like this page, but repeated a few hundred times.
I'm too lazy to be productive.
This is why I will never amount to anything.
I'll probably just stick to doing regular drawings.

So, I'm seeing: tiny hands, big ass head, his right ear's position, flat torso, couldn't figure out how to make his right arm look any more "bent back" than what I did there, hip is stiff and leg bends at a weird angle.

Take pic related

Clutter has many things to it, but the most important things to keep in mind are: cluster, rotate, distribute.
Cluster objects of the same type/function with eachother (like all the inkpots, books, binders, etc in this example).
Rotate objects all the time; put them all at different angles (rarely is anything nicely straight or parallel).
Distribute as in: spread it out enough, avoid weird empty spaces; but keep clustering in mind (don't spread out objects in equal distance from eachother).

I also like to think that there are "layers": 1st layer being the main focus of what the character is doing (in this case it's the laptops, computers and keyboards)
2nd layer is stuff that is used often by someone so should be in reach easily: Like all the binders, books, mugs etc that are in hand reach for (both) characters.
3rd layers is stuff that is not used often and is usually pushed to the back or corners: this case it's more books, papers/rolls, drawers and other electronics
At last there is extra stuff like the lamps which kind of hang over everything to bring all together.

Also be sure to add depth: brushes, cans, books all stand out in front of eachother; depth is very important composition wise, makes it all more interesting to look at too
All this whilst keeping perspective in mind.

I usually work at 100% scale, rarely zoom in; that way I have a good overview of all that is going on + I can see if the perspective still holds up.
Also I don't plan what objects I put down (pic rel.): I draw the line-art directly over that

I'd say look at images of messy desks or counters and see how objects relate to eachother, what objects there are and how everything is positioned/clustered.
Hope you get something out of that.

Yeah you're right, the figure looks out of balance.
I'm in this fucked state where my figure drawing knowledge isn't enough to get things right from the get go so a lot of time is wasted on adjustments, genuinely headache inducing.
Not sure what the best method to get over this is, either, I just study Bridgman/Vilppu and hope it gets better with experience.

Best method really is just drawing a perfectly straight line as your 1st layer setting it to 30% Opacity or whatever and having that as your measurement along side your drawing. Even if you're barely paying attention to it, the line will help guide your eye to somewhat fix the figure from losing it's balance.

Usually the poses I want are very difficult to find. So much so I mainly draw from the imagination.
However, I tend to look up specific muscle parts on things I struggle on. For example; if I'm drawing a character with their legs spread a certain way and can't figure it out, I tend to pull up an artists anatomy book to understand the leg more, and apply that knowledge onto my drawing. I tend to do this frequently and learn a bit more as I create new drawings.

Oooh, very cool. You were mentioning earlier your troubles with the paws (because they were designed in a silly way desu), but I think they look fine the way they are. I do think the pose you're working with could stand to be more dynamic; it kind of looks like the Pokemon's just standing there and throwing out a doodad. Perhaps even consider foreshortening the main subject in addition to the yo-yo (which is very well done btw).

Still overall very cute. Keep up the good work!

If you think the paws look fine, then that's enough for me to be happy with them.
I went ahead and adjusted the Pokemon and the Yo-yo's position to make for a "more" dynamic look. Already almost done, so I'll fix/adjust what I can.

It's a process of trial and error, trying to imagine which forms would have lighter or darker lines, staying zoomed out and squinting a lot. Sometimes it works on the first attempt, sometimes it doesn't, like in picrel which I had to do another take after.
>Where can I find more of this so I can study it?

Thanks for the advice! I'm bad at painting and quit for months. I've only recently began picking it back up again so I've been trying to relearn how to paint.

If it's not too much of a bother, I had a few more questions. Correct me if I'm wrong but do you use the sketch as lines on low opacity and then paint over the color and sketches with the black as well? Do you use soft light or multiply on a low opacity as a base for the shadows before painting it over or do you go straight to the color? Finally, do you have advice on how to learn anatomy? I'm so reliant on 3D models that anything outside of Source Filmmaker screenshot references is trash...

Have a rendering practice painting based on Maneko.

No worries, happy to help.
>do you use the sketch as lines on low opacity and then paint over the color and sketches with the black as well?
Yeah, the sketch is there through the whole process, toned down in opacity by about 20%.
After base colors and values are set, I begin painting over everything, slowly painting out the lines but not completely.
>Do you use soft light or multiply on a low opacity as a base for the shadows before painting it over or do you go straight to the color?
Base colors, multiply layer (which I then erase out to create form), overlay with light desat yellow to finalize initial stage. From there it's overpainting.
>Finally, do you have advice on how to learn anatomy?
I find that countour lines help a lot to define form early. Really nothing to add past the usual advice of studying artists with good anatomy 1:1, copy their drawings for practice if need be.
Good luck on studies m8, here's a small overpaint on your render practice.

Some posters are literally dead (you know who I am talking about if you know). Some posters left after the sniffer debacle and never came back.
Some posters made it and left /ic/ forever.
Some posters, on the contrary, never made it and thus stopped drawing, and consequently also left /ic/ forever.
Some posters are just MIA.
It's slower because there haven't been enough replacements for the people leaving.

The kind of unfortunate thing about art is that you'll rarely get a good rate per hour, so the practice itself incentivizes getting fast. Your art's quite good, and I imagine you could easily find buyers for something like that for between $50-$150, depending on your audience already. I would, of course, say that the intrinsic value is worth more than that, but that's not the world we live in unfortunately.

Also, it's furry, and not porn, which realistically limits the amount of people who would potentially pay more for such a piece.

I would dispute this. In the furry community, there's always pressure to make porn, or at the very least, cheesecake. The furry community, despite what the spokespeople would have you believe, is by and far a sexual fandom. Going SFW (and I mean, purely sfw, no pinups whatsoever) will only hurt you in the long run.

The anon we're responding to has transferable skills, and could reliably branch out. But if you're putting all your eggs in the furry basket, refusing to do any nsfw will only make everything more difficult, unless you're REALLY good.

You're fine.
Try mapping out shadows with pen beforehand, or focus more on cel-shading. A lot of people find it helpful to 'block in' shadows without any refinement whatsoever to plan them, and then slowly carve out shapes of light, or vice versa. It's generally easier to refine shapes than get them in one fell swoop.
Rendering and shadows also comes down to your knowledge of materials, volumes, and light interaction. Study those sorts of things.

i really like your drawings and think they're really cool and unique, so i hope i didn't ruin your style too much.
kind of wanted to try my take on your drawings for a while, so here goes!

overall, i find that your eyes are in general kind of "drawn onto" a spherical skull, so i felt it was difficult to understand how they geometrically interact with the skull...i tried to give my version a more cat-like skull geometry (with more realistic eyes, but i tried to keep your idea of the more human-like eyelids), only after that it becomes easier to tell where shadows would fall.
Regarding the eyeballs, the iris is more or less straight inside the eye afaik, so your irises should not be spherical, unless you specifically want them to be this way, of course.

Thanks for the paintover. I appreciate it and I have saved this image for future referencing.
I don't know how the eyes are on the skull either. I usually just draw them without thinking. I'm probably symbol drawing.
The reason why the irises tend to be spherical in the cat Eloisa is because I want to emphasize the roundness of her eye cornea, even though they aren't this pronounced in actual cats, resulting in a very exaggerated look.

I just want to say her head is really well done. Her left eye (our right) is a bit too high up by my estimation (her pupils should be on the same latitude), but they portray good volume I think. They look like round eyes, and not decals. Same goes for her horns and ears, and overall head shape. Good stuff. Her body looks a tad bit flat, especially her legs (the censoring is obscuring some details, but from what I can see, her coochie looks pasted on in the background. From what I can see around the censoring, her boobs look good. There's no cleavage, and they have some sag.
I really like your sketching style. I don't know if you work digitally or traditionally, but it's nice. Sketches like that have their own appeal and can stand on their own, I think, without too much fuss. I have a tendency to make things too clean.
