You have been! If I could offer some advice, I think it would be beneficial to to some slow construction studies for your figures. Take your time to draw out the boxes and basic forms, make sure the proportions are accurate. This will make it easier to find the forms and copy them accurately, and internalize them correctly for your original imagination drawings. There's really no need to rush yourself to draw tons of poses in a short period of time when you're still getting comfortable with drawing one pose at a time. The lines are wiggly and wobbly and unevenly spaced. Practice placing them more carefully, evenly and cleanly. What you're doing is a common noob mistake: trying to render with hatching before you can even draw a nice line. How good your hatching looks is heavily dependent on how good your line work is, and a newbie will have shit line work because good line work is a mileage thing.

Basically, you need practice. Lots of practice.

Drawing will make your line work better, doesn't matter what you're doing. Making a conscious effort to draw clean lines will make it go a bit faster, but you need to train your hand to physically do it, which takes time. Why are the colors muted every time whenever I rotate my pictures before uploading???

This only happens when I rotate the pictures from landscape to portrait or vice versa before uploading.

I’m uploading directly from my iPad. It’s annoying because I had to use a different app or editor just rotate the picture before uploading to dad. Whenever I use the iPad gallery itself to rotate the pictures, it always look muted.

And it only happens to dad.

I can upload rotated pics from my iPad to any website or this site or twitter just fine without it looking washed out.
I can’t be the only person with this problem???

I forgot to add I do remember someone complaining about washed out pictures before? Did they ever solved that?? For some bizarre reason it only happens to me when I rotate my picture before uploading it. If I want keep color accuracy i have to literally upload the picture as is. That’s not possible because the canvas I usually draw isn’t set. I like to flip and rotate the canvas very often so when I do saved the picture out of the software it usually came out in the wrong orientation.

>> No.5209425

>>5209388
No when I upload my pictures directly, the picture is fine. It’s only after I “edited” it on my iPad you know the iOS default gallery has an editor (to crop and rotate etc) and you can’t view color range on that.

It’s mostly likely some compatibility thing between the site and the way iOS spits out its image. Twitter and Instagram do not have this problem.

I’m using an iPad Pro.

First of all, reply to the following, anon:
- What's the size of these sketches?
- What size of ink pen are you using?

Second, it'd help you to understand the medium Dore worked in to wrap your head around it better. Some sources cite xylography but going by observation it looks more like etching (or perhaps his dong was that big, regadless..). Getting more familiar with this process and observing people creating values via etching, seeing how they carve different thickness of lines with different chisels will give you a better picture of how you could imitate this on paper.
One key aspect though is that you need enough space. That's why you should work big. Otherwise there's not enough resolution as to fit all your lines, particularly if you're using a thick ink pen.

>>5207953 is right in the spacing aspect, you need consistency, but how prolix your lines are is not as important as how consistent it all looks. IF you look closely to many works rendered similarly, you can see some lines being sloppy, but that's lost in the larger resolution of the picture, again another reason while you should draw big for these things.
And most important, commit and be patient, a larger drawing will be more work. And hatching is very time consuming. So if you really want to get good at it, that's what will be requested of you the most.

>> No.5210029

>>5209425
It's likely that there's some metadata carrying information that's eliminated when you edit the picture.
Often pictures are reduced half in size when you edit them in the gallery. Plus, the site is set to strip metadata from pictures afaik. 4chan does as well so you could try uploading the picture as is, without editing it in the gallery to some thread and see if the colors and all is still intact then.

This is honestly really good advice. Branching out into other forms of art like sculpture, music, 3D, etc can be a really healthy way to satisfy your desire to learn and make stuff without drawing. If you have lots of negative associations and stress with drawing, there's no shame in switching focuses. Animuheads here. Trying for a non cel-shaded render this time. The line art isn't mine, hence why it isn't clipped to it properly, I feel like I'm close, but missing something. I put down the flats, roughly put in the shadows with pencil, transparent watercoloured it to give it a gradient effect, then made a multiply layer for the shadow below the skirt.

I'm not great at painting either, but I think it generally helps to focus on drawing in the shapes of the values, rather than blending and gradients.

You probbaly wouldn't want to do that. The shadow of the skirt and the shadow of the legs should be about the same value, shadows don't "stack" on top of each other in situations like this.

I don't think I was really "focused" on the gradients. I tried to think of where the plane changes would be in the body according to the anatomy (ribcage, oblique muscles, ab msucles etc) Though perhaps I did a shoddy job lol.

Maple said to me that in his country it is custom to brush your teeth after every snack. Now, I already ticked him off I think in retrospect and then I told him that brushing your teeth in a near-immediate time frame after the consumption of foods is bad for your oral hygiene as you brush the acid in or something like that as far as my knowledge goes.
However, I'm not sure as simple sugars first need to be digested by the various bacteria present in the mouth in order to create the acids and thus increase the acidity in the mouth.
Coffee, as far as my knowledge skips the conversion and the coffee is straight acidity or something like that.
Now, of course drinking a coffee every now and then isn't necessarily bad.

I joined to see, but I already have too many other servers I'm more active in, so Dadcord was never going to be a serious prospect unless it was a solidly good server.
It's an OK server, but not good. There are more autists than I'm willing to interact with regularly, and the ateliers/group drawing sessions don't fit my preference.
Hypothetically it would be fun to interact sometimes, but I already have better haunts.

Green’s a sperg and despite his /beg/ sketches to get badges he’s alright as a person, despite the sperginess.

Behavior that is extremely socially unpalatable.
The acid explanation is unnecessary because you kept pushing even though maple said to stop pinging. I agree that maple is hyper-aggro, but if someone says to stop, it's normally best to respect their wishes instead of continuing. If you don't like their behavior but you're the one pushing your points onto them, it's your problem.
The messages sent about the new guy were:
>ggg godstatus
>puts me to shame (but I guess that isn't that hard that new guy is beating my ass hard)
This is spergy because you are fishing for compliments (you are insulting your own work to get someone to tell you it isn't that bad). Previously you have also expressed self-hatred and fished for ratings/expressed negative sentiments when given bad ratings, and have consistently pestered for grading when you were told that it wasn't a constructive form of criticism.
Forcing the entire community to coddle your self-hatred is irresponsible and spergy. Guilt-tripping people into taking back valid criticism because you are saying things like "I want to die/I hate my art" is also spergy.

>> No.5220205 [DELETED]

I want to add that I don't think that you necessarily have bad intentions.
Nonetheless, fishing for compliments and posting "I hate myself and my art soo much", as well as posting "I hate all of my art" as soon as someone tries to give you constructive criticism or tells you that you have things you can work on, does not come off well. It can make people reluctant to engage with you.
Personally, if I talk to an artist that I am not friends with and give them constructive criticism, or if they beg me to rate their art from S to D and I rate honestly, and then they start saying "I hate my art and myself and life and everything", I will probably stop talking to that artist if that type of behavior persists, especially if it is occurring outside of designated venting channels or areas (which dadcord does not have).
It is tiresome and I would rather spare myself both the additional trouble of wasting my time on constructive criticism AND the guilt from having given you criticism that has made you hate your art.

>> No.5220214 [DELETED]

Yes, I agree. Green is just a more obvious offender because he does it literally everywhere (discord chat, /ic/, dad website), but I do also think that other dads that consistently place the burden of their mental health onto everyone else are being excessive.

Vent channels exist in some servers, and if they don't exist, I normally assume it isn't appropriate. Just as I don't want to deal with the issues of a number of strangers all of the time, I'm sure that other strangers do not want to deal with all of my issues all of the time.

To clarify, I have nothing against vent art or emotionally charged pieces, since other people can choose to engage with your work, or just not look/read.
However, when you comment on public topics, boards, voice calls, and channels with your mental health issues, you are placing the burden of your mental health upon people that are decidedly not your therapist. It is hard to disengage when you are purposefully placing yourself there. Please seek a trained professional or therapist if you consider yourself a risk to yourself, or need help in general.

then eh I usually want someone to point out flaws in anatomy, composition, bad line design and a quick rating (doesn't have to be anything fancy just very bad, bad, ok, good, quite good, excellent, you amaze me etc. just point out the weakspots for *that specific drawing*. I try to make this as clear as possible.

like wtf don't spend an hour evaluating every one of my pieces in the last 60 days or so just tell me if the drawing I'm posting has easily identifiable flaws.

anyway, love arguing with you not sure if you have harmful intentions but please note that I can take criticism without getting fucking depression or something. do not read "i hate muh art" as causal for the criticism you gave (its the other way around but I'm tired man)

if you rate me low and tell me i think x y and z really fucking suck with your art and I respond like yeah I hate that too about my art I'm not fucking depressed. what the fuck am I supposed to say if I agree with them? "no bro, x y and z that's what I excel at fuck you your criticism fucking sucks and fuck you and I fucked your hot sister!" why can't I agree with them on negative opinions about my art? why am I not allowed to not like my output? why do people like *you* have such a problem with it? it's not your fucking illustrations that suck balls, why do you obsess over *me* not liking *my* art? why do the you-thinkers think that I fall down into super depressino whenever I say "well yeah I don't like x y and z about my art too it is indeed something that's a problem or holding me back" whatever.

I give you my honest opinion of you, and you think I am just twisting the facts.
So be it.

I don't shit talk you with any "group" or mention you in any capacity, aside from in threads. My quotes were generally paraphrased from the sentiments I have seen you voice.

I do not consider maple pleasant either.

It does not always matter if your intentions are good if you are frequently perceived poorly.

A man may decide he does not want to support industries that engage in child labor, and so he may choose to stop buying clothing. Either way, when strangers perceive him, they will still consider him ragged and unkempt, and if he goes into the public eye, people might talk.
You can choose to be concerned about that or not.

The truth is that you consistently shit on your own art and compare yourself to others like ggg while making yourself the lesser.

Even if it is not intentionally fishing for compliments, you are placing the burden of your exhausting mental health and personal self-hatred onto everyone else.
>>5221155
> if you ask me any day of the week do you like yourself the answer will mostly be "no."
I am not saying that you have to like yourself. Think of it like more wearing pants instead of underwear in public, even if you do not want to wear pants and would prefer to feel the breeze.

It does not matter if you feel neutral about your self-hatred. Either way, you are placing that burden upon a stranger or acquaintance that does not necessarily know that fact. It is extremely tiresome to critique someone and then have them moan about hating their art.
You are turning an unemotional conversation extremely emotional.

I do not want to sit through your seemingly emotional tirade of self-hatred, or be forced to compliment you to soothe your hurt feelings.
Similarly, I do not want to have to tell sensitive 14 year olds that their sparkledogs are tasteful and high quality after they break down into depression, so I do not bother critiquing them.

>But I don't get why that becomes a *you* problem
Because you are doing it in public. It does not matter how you feel internally when you are doing it in public and talking about it to uninterested strangers. Self-reflection and awareness would be good things to work on, if you want to be perceived more positively. If you don't, then it doesn't matter, but people who are perceived overly negatively tend to attract negative commentary in turn.

Compare it to the guy going shopping in his underwear. He may only be thinking about the freedom of his nuts, but I do not want to have to walk into a store and see the outline of his penis.

Your mental health becomes my problem when you make it my problem. If you post about it publicly and expect people to react instead of just ignoring it, then you are making it my problem. By expecting a reaction from ME in regards to an issue of YOUR mental health, you are making your mental health my problem.
>well just fucking ignore it then
Well I fucking can't if you post about it in every chat and channel, can I? That's the entire fucking point.

Gri, if you want to learn a foreign language online, it can work. I don't want to engage in discord drama or reply there, cause it's kinda awkward, but if you see this, know that a friend of mine did learn basic Chinese from the internet and apps! Hi Gri! It sounds fine, and I think it's good so long as you keep using it and trying to practice it so that it doesn't fall into disuse. It's really like learning any other language, but it's just hard because there are a lot of characters to memorise and the tones and sounds can be weird, especially if they don't exist in your native language.
But it's ok if your tones aren't perfect to start with! My friend's tones were kind of bad and so hearing him speak was odd, but it was understandable and he was working to pronounce things right, and he's still improving now and taking it in a class at school. His personal preference was following along with Chinese cooking videos.

Plus, knowing how to write it is already half the battle.
I have German/other European friends online that say their spoken English is really accented because they never use it in real life, but their casual conversational writing is really good and I wouldn't blink if they told me they were native English writers (even though they aren't!). Many improved their English by interacting with English net communities online, so I think there's merit in learning a language online, even if it's not as good as being immersed in the language IRL every day. I'm sure that if they practiced speaking as much, their English would be great. Asian languages can be really daunting in general, for tones and foreign pronunciation, but if you know how to write them, that's a lot of the hard work done, and it definitely isn't an impossible task or a futile effort.
Hell, I have some white friends that unironically learned some/a lot of Japanese and Korean starting from anime and kdramas, and I wouldn't be surprised if their speaking was accented or a tad off, but that's fine. It can be improved on over time.
It's good to find an exchange group or someone you can chat with in the language (for both writing and speaking) to practice and improve your tones that way, though!
I know this is probably all very obvious, I just wanted to write it to offer a less discouraging perspective on trying to learn a really different foreign language without actually being in the country. It naturally isn't as ideal as immersion, but it can work nonetheless.

I hear that the difficulty with learning Japanese can be that it has radically different grammar, but some Euro friends actually say Japanese is really easy, so maybe it really depends on what you start with. Chinese just has difficult tones and a lot of memorisation. Apparently the Korean alphabet is the easiest one to learn, because there's an actual alphabet.

Good luck! I think ROTK (1994) is a good series if you like ancient war/political intrigue TV shows. The ones on Youtube normally have subs in Chinese and English too. I think my friend was learning from cooking vids like I mentioned before, because it's a convenient source of casual, everyday Chinese.

Power went out in the whole state because the people in charge of the power companies pocketed the winter budget instead of using it to winterize shit so it wouldn't shut down like this. So basically everyone was out of power for almost a week, some still are, burst pipes everywhere, it's a shitshow.

Hey dads, is there any art youtubers that you like? I've watch a bunch of them through the years, I used to watch proko a lot and i remember watching marco buccis old videos. Like back when he painted those two spheres because I really wanted to learn to digital paint.
These days I've gone from watching the NMA youtube channel, and I watch some videos of Vilppu here and there. But I don't really manage to get into them, I mean I see a lot of good things in them. But the one youtube channel that I constantly go back to watching is Jazza.
What do you guys think of it? Do you have other channels that you watch, recommend?

I really liked that one where he opened up about his youtube channel and how his art career had evolved since he was on newgrounds. Is a bit touching because in one way he actually made it, but he's frustrated because he doesn't like where he ended up. It made me think of what to look forward in art and just seemed like a good reflection about it. I haven't seen any other youtubers like proko or others that make art content seriously do a video like this. You know its like others make art videos too that sometimes are kind of cringe but they don't acknowledge it or make reflections about it.
I remember when I used to post on deviantart and I'd think about making it to the first page, and sometimes I'd think of drawing popular things for that. And that one video he made makes me think of that a lot.

I used to really love threesibo's videos until she stopped uploading because she allegedly used to harrass people who had a similar art style to hers in the past. Her new videos don't quite feel the same, especially considering the comments are always locked now. The like to dislike ratio on her videos is insane, Koreans really hate former bullies, huh

>> No.5224864

>>5224857
huh, did she really?
I wasn't aware of any drama surrounding her channel. It's a shame because she's really well versed on multiple art mediums

>> No.5224875

>>5224864
Last year, I think, someone made a (korean) tweet talking about how threesibo would harrass them a lot when they were young teens. Apparently the person suffers from mental health problems until this day. I think threesibo even addressed this in a video at some point, apologizing for her behavior after her comment sections kept getting spammed with people telling her to apologize and to stop posting videos
Take all of this info with a grain of salt though, since I don't know any korean. Like you said, she's well versed in a lot of different art mediums so I wanted to find out why she suddenly got so much hate

Do people find studying Krenz's figure sketches more effective than studying from photos of real people? I've seen some dads doing it and I wondered if they felt they were useful.

Man, the older i get the more i realize that your own motivation, determination and people skills can get you really far, even if your skills aren't exactly on par. Makes me wish that my approach to art would be more naive and childlike.

This is why I’m fascinated with Baylee Jae.
Mediocre art, lazy, still manages to make a shit ton of money off her art.
