IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH!

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

soul, but you need to work on your straights.
Look up Brent Eviston in the mega thread and follow along with his "week 1 Basic Skills". As a quick tip for your window etc., I would say that you should compare the sides of your wall features with the sides of the wall, just so you don't have to guess quite as much.

The left side looks like guess-work (Shoulder to arm). My only advice is to keep studying more anatomy until you think less about every muscle individually and more about the form they give the body. I recommend Gottfried Bammes anatomy book to get a better 3-D-form view of the stuff and hopefully internalize it.

Thank you, I have his course in my bookmarks now. I don't draw often but I'd like to especially get better at drawing people. When I show my drawn people to others, people say it looks like them, but I'm also well aware that it's not close to being realistic.
I really only use pens, and use color pencils for color, but I've been considering looking into watercolors so my colors aren't so grainy. Any advice there would be truly appreciated. Just got sober and I want a hobby I can focus on.

photo on left is a long sketch, photo on right is a short sketch. how long do you think it'd take to attain the skill of better realistically drawing people?

Perfectly realistic - very long. You're pretty close to the beginning of your journey but on the bright side you will probably see some fairly immediate art gains. have fun with the process of learning new techniques, practicing and getting better.
Once you start feeling confident with your line-work and get further in that course look up "proko How to Draw the Head from Any Angle" on youtube. General idea with construction is to make guiding shapes lightly using pencil to help you before you commit with your dark lines / pen, because getting it right the first time is hard.

That's either because the person drew very lightly or they traced the sketch onto a new paper with pen and maybe even a lightbox. Drawing lightly is kinda important but I think I ignored it for a while because ive been digital only for a year and a half

I am going through Perspective Made Easy and the author is not the first one to mention that 2 vanishing points should never be too close to each other or the perspective will get warped, even going as far as calling it "violent" perspective. He suggests when this happen we move 1 of the points far away to the other one. I personally don't see that as a problem at all, but he is not the first one I see mentioning that. I get it that the perspective itself will get warped and distorted, but I don't see that as a problem. Am I just too stupid?

The giant should not have regular human proportions, that's what is throwing you off. Instead of 7-8 heads tall, the giant should probably be 9 or something. Same way that petite women and midgets are not just scaled down 7.5 heads tall people, the head to body ratio changes with height.

Her proportions are correct 7.5 heads tall and the width is right too. He obviously understands human anatomy and proportions, and has just stylized it. There's a book about this in some of the megas, called Drawing Girls. You should take a look, as it talks about exactly what this artist is doing.

ok homie stop for a second. You're pumping these out without putting any effort. It's fine if it's for vent, but don't turn around and ask for crit if you're not going to be able to accept it. People said fix your linework and your turnaround is "it's my style". If your style is taking away from the quality of your work, then its a hindrance. Slow down. Gather reference. Put a line stabilizer on and work in one, long stroke. these are considerably better. I like the concept on the second the most. I like drawing horror-related art too. What is your goal artwise? is there an artist you aspire to be as good as? This will help give you advice that is relevant. If you want to paint, then there's no point in focusing on lineart.

The mental hospital comment relates to how every single piece you've posted relates to either suicide, murder, or blood in a way that screams for attention rather than having any artistic language. That and it's 4chan

Unironically draw from life every single day (while also practicing the Loomis method) until you can feel the form and perform cross sections of round objects with reasonable accuracy. Unironically do life studies of eggs (since they have a pretty even, uniform shape). All kinds of angles and distances. You eventually start to "feel" how the lines go behind the object with respect to its form.
Otherwise you're just drawing random circles and hoping to get it right.

If you're just looking to improve generally so you can have fun drawing, focus on your lines. Even with just drawing, having smooth lines will improve your work by a lot. Focus on making cubes, curves and most importantly, abstract shapes with contour lines to show depth (like in the picture). These will help train your hand-eye coordination and teach your mind how to create depth in an image.

it's fine to be mad at your level. It's not ok to ruminate on it. Taking small steps to build up strength will help you in the long run. Maybe in a decade, your name and will have a following

Did a quick recreation of the pose so you have a reference of what I was suggesting.

Collarbone is the bone on the top of the shoulder, when you are not a skeletor it will look like...well...a collar around the base of your neck, so wrap it around your neck like collar will look more natural.

On right hand because the deltoid muscle, it will bulge up slightly near the shoulder. And having your upper arm in that angle would sort of suggest your forearm is rotated 90 degrees on the joint as you can see from the elbow.

Your leg is connected to the pelvic, so the inner thigh line is not a smooth line linking to your waist.
I chose a slightly more top down angle so you can see roughly what's happening at the crotch area.

Of course for drawing you can choose where to exaggerated and where to tone down, so take what you would. Hope this helps, cheers.

Start with big simple shapes, get a blueprint down for the whole thing and make sure the proportions are correct before you start doing details. Don't get lost in details trying to copy exact contours before you have a proper base down. That's part of what your reference is showing you. Simplified shapes > gradually increase accuracy of shapes > actual contours.

You also might want to practice out of something you can read, if you can't read that.

Get a book like Morpho, Hogarth, Loomis, etc. and learn construction and anatomy. You did a decent job trying to get the silhouette for the body but there's next to no internal structure. Nothing to indicate the structure of the torso or pelvis, obliques, abdominals, the neck, muscles and bones in the limbs, etc. Just lots of stuff where you aren't familiar with the body so you're drawing lines that just go around everything without really properly indicating the form. Just look at all the empty space inside your figure. Also the one eye looks a bit like it's drooping off the face.

Are you retarded? FWaP is literally for people who can't into drawing and teaches them how. It specifically states that you copy what you see so you can get a feel for it and then do your own once you understand the basics.
That's generally how people progress in anything. You copy someone who knows what they're doing, learn from them, and then go your own way.
Why do beginner guitarists always learn C major, D major. and F major first? Why aren't they picking up the guitar and instantly Malmsteening the balls off it? Why do pianists learn Twinkle Twinkle Little Star instead of creating concertos the second they sit on the stool? Why is "hello world" the first thing you learn in programming? Why don't these programmers just switch the computer on and start writing efficiency programs before they learn what anything is?
It sounds more like you got filtered by Loomis and maybe even life in general. Stick to plebbit.

Please post work done from reference so that people can compare. I'm saying this generally because I see a lot more figure work done from imagination here than reference, and I don't think people understand that when you're starting out 99.9% of your practice should be studying reference, not imagination. You can't draw what you don't know and you certainly can't learn from it.
> I think my problem is that I don't know how to represent those things in an appealing manner
You will learn how to design things through osmosis by studying how other artists draw things, by attempting to replicate their drawings. This is why it's so important to be copying out of a figure drawing book, studying how professional artists design things. They draw the figure in a way that clarifies the anatomy and structure so that you can learn it easily. So get one of those figure books and start copying out the pictures to memorize them.

>> No.5164532

No, it's fine, Proko references Loomis from time to time and these look like Loomis heads so you're getting somewhere. Just like I said, slow it down, take your time with each drawing, and try to get ahold of one of the books to study so you can copy the pictures. You don't need to be a genius to learn how to draw, I know that for sure, just stubborn.

Edouard Guiton
Atomy Cyber
Forestbox
PuniPaws
itsiansu

To name a few. Very different styles but I think that's good as it gives me different perspectives on how to go about it and which method/style I like best.

For clothes I look at pics of real life then again look at the work of Guiton but also Nathan Anderson.

I have a long way to go.

Rightoids are soulless and incapable of producing art, even if they manage to grind into some technical competence. There's a reson your leader was rejected from art school. Spoiler: that reason isn't the jews, just that he was a hack
