IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH!

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

I bought an eraser pencil thinking I could cut away shadows straight into highlights, for stuff like drawing white hair on a dark area.

sketches definitely have an appeal and half of it is because the messy lines cover up the mistakes lol

i would say less than a year of drawing and studying most days to get where i am. but i have some background where i drew as a child and whatever. so tack on some more months if you are a complete beginner

the book sequence i would recommend is bargue (don't need to finish the whole thing), perspective made easy, drawing the head and hands, figure drawing for all its worth, vilppu drawing manual. did some drawabox too

and buy some conte charcoal pencils they look and draw a lot nicer than pencils lol

You're not a machine dumbass, managing your motivation is of paramount importance for long term progress.

Menial exercises like lines and tones, or boxes and cylinders, are fine as a warmup, and they're a good way to punch the clock when you don't have energy to keep up a consistent drawing habit. But they're a horrible waste of days when you have motivation, which will be most days when you've got the initial enthusiasm that lead you to take up some new hobby.

Semi-beg here... Been on and off the drawing lessons for a while now. I use a book, I use Udemy, I use /ic/, I use drawbox... I am realizing that for drawing, I need some sort of classroom guidelines/syllabus to kind of help me with my studies. I would love to take an actual course, but COVID is keeping me locked up inside.

Does anyone have a syllabus that would be worth following? What books to read? What sequence of practice is best (shapes > plants > animals > perspective > people > etc)
Is there actually someone online that does remote teaching? I know you can't just study and get a checkmark to pass drawing, but I feel like I need a structured learning approach and me just picking random books doesn't help cause I loose motivation. My goal is to want to draw anime/disney style people. I've always wanted to draw stylized people. I would love to just start with drawing people, but I know I need to learn shapes, perspective, anatomy, etc. But I don't know what path will take me there... Any structured approach advice or even links to online teachers would be so appreciated.

These are starting to look alright anon, you should be proud. A word of advice, if you want people to look at these you should make sure the thumbnail is clear and readable. The bg color and line colors are too similar in value. It's hard to look at in full res, in a thumbnail, you don't stand a chance.

You can use your knowledge of contour, shape and form to make a passable figure, but when you look closer it falls apart. You should really dive into anatomy practice, I get the impression that you don't actually know how the muscles work. George Bridgman and Dr. Paul Richer's books helped me out a lot, maybe look them up.

Gesture needs work too, but I'm not that great at it either. Draw from life and do 30 sec gestures when you do, you'll get better if you put in the time.

Last thing I'd say is keep your forms consistent. Don't show me a face in profile when I'm clearly looking down on it as well as to the side. Don't cop out, really make sure your aware of where the general planes of your forms should be facing.

Good luck anon :D

His ass looks heavy. I like it.

But on a serious note, if you angled his right foot slightly more towards the viewer it would look a lot less stilted. In your reference you can see how his right foot is angled more towards us, and this gives him a more natural looking pose, but in your drawing the foot is faced perpendicular to the viewer, which makes it look really stiff and unnatural. Similarly, you drew his left leg angled more outwards than in the reference picture, which also makes it look a bit stiff. The only other major issue I can see is that on the reference pic, the actual waistline is covered by his webgear, canteen and pouches, meaning that we only see the lower half of his groin. You don't seem to have taken this into account for your picture, meaning his left arm looks way too short, ending at about groin height when it should be ending about halfway down his thigh. This same issue makes his right arm's upper arm far too short.

I still really like it though. Top tier soul.

When drawing from a reference photo, my proportions are a bit off. Each element on it's own seems to be decent, but as a whole things seem off (for example, the figure's arm/hand looks ok, but when compared to the rest of the figure, it's too wide). My advice would be to keep trying those Loomis ball heads, atleast for a bit. You're not gonna get it right away, but they're important for teaching construction and how to think in 3d space. If after a while you still can't get them, maybe try some Proko Loomis tutorials on Youtube, because it helps a lot to have a video reference on what you should be doing. I hope this helps.

I just had a brief moment where it felt like a ghost took over my body and drew better than me. I tried to recreate it and ended up finding a similar feeling when I focused on moving my pencil. Are you supposed to focus on your pencil while drawing?

drew the arm from the other thread, most fucked parts i think is the inconsistent line weight and shading, though this is my first attempt at shading so what more could i expect.

that piece missing from her ear is so aesthetic pleasing, was it done on purpose? or she just got "lucky"?

The proportions are bothering me but I cant really pinpoint what it is. I think the upper arm might be too long for one thing but I'm not sure what else

So i open instagram once every 100 years and it's only to check out these nice drawings and for whatever reason instagram then recommends me a random ass guy that i will not mention because people here would bully the shit out of him it had the saddest below /beg/ tier drawings models and animations i have ever seen, since i speak the same language i was about to recommend him some books but i keep looking at his pics and he already had a physical copy of the animators survival guide had gone to art classes, has gone to conferences given by jim lee, then i try to understand what the fuck is going on and i see his selfies
>Oh well this guy looks old maybe he just doesn't have time for it
>holy fuck he is 24 like me and the motherfucker streams for hours on twitch

I guess some people just like to call themselves artist and i guess that's fine but it's really surprising seeing how people like this even exist i don't see a way to help him

Is there a point to these "figure drawing in X seconds" exercises ? They just seem like an excuse to make people draw a ton of stuff.
not that practicing a lot is bad but is there any benefit in doing it in 30/60 seconds.
