because warm/cool is an arbitrary attribute with no basis in reality and the perceived color of a lit area has literally nothing to do with the perceived color of a shadow area, you stupid fucking nigger

Taking it as gospel is a mistake but it's a concept a lot of people find helpful to establish pleasing color interactions. If you can't distinguish between a warm or cool hue then that's on you man.

You’re gonna have an argument about definitions and semantics. Here’s a tip, instead saying warm light cool shadows and vise versa, you should just said. “I don’t believe theres a general rule when it comes to how we perceive hue depending on the lighting scheme “

Color "temperature" is just the slant of a hue towards blue or red and the way that affects the mood of a painting and the perception of the colors around it how is that difficult to understand

>The phrase warm color is used to describe any color that is vivid or bold in nature. Warm colors are those that tend to advance in space and can be overwhelming. Examples of warm colors include red, yellow and orange (think exciting fire and volcanoes). Contrast with cool colors.

Just a quick google search. It's not entirely accurate (like the advancing in space thing) but it gets the basic idea

>facts
We’re talking about art you moron, ask any normal person what “feels” warm and 99/100 will always say red, orange, yellow or any colors close to it, just because blue is hotter scientifically doesn’t mean people think its hot. Fucking moron

>> No.4997377

stop being so literal you mong. leave it to /ic/ to sperg about artists using terminology relative to mood and aesthetics instead of indisputable reality.

Key word there is “feel” something you autists cant comprehend without lobotomizing someone’s brain.

>> No.4997383

>>4997360
Accept that is not correct. Orange, Red and Yellow are not equally “warm” relative to one another. You can have a painting composed entirely of warm colors and some retard would still come along and say some areas are cooler than others. Then you add greys to your colors, and those are not the same temperature as the saturated hues either. It’s mumbo jumbo of the highest caliber and there is not a single fucking person who can tell you what determines the supposed temperature of a color. Gurney has like half a page of text dedicated to it and he says literally nothing besides that some colors might seem cooler than others in some context. The whole thing comes exclusively from outdoor lighting and even then just as a general principle of how the sun and sky interact, and doesn’t even take reflected light into account, just direct and ambient light from the sun and sky.
