Of course you can retard, Hue shift is just as a different as saturation and value. But it's gimmicky, that's all it is. You cant substitite them.

The additional colors are added to create values not replace it.

Fairly easy rule. In nature or in real life really...nothing is pure color. There’s no pure black or white or anything.

Paint like that too. Problem solved. Most beginners use the same color to shade. If you’re good observer you’ll noticed different colors everywhere. It’s up to you to exaggerate it if you want.
