As someone who finds some appeal in the anthro market, there is absolutely no denying it is absolutely rife with degenerate pornography that would horrify anybody with a sense of standards.

Furfags can point their fingers all they want at animetards (and maybe they have some valid points) but they cannot say such shit without acknowledging the excessive lows furry artists will go to make extra cash. Its also seems to conveniently overlook the fact that its communities are rife with artists and people with all kinds of mental issues, who are also filled to the brim with extremely deviant and perverted individuals (many of which are more than likely, very heavily tied to some of the richest and most corrupt organisations in the world). Such artists can make their way anymore because their standards are so low, and are hired to work on TV shows and industries used to brainwash and indoctrinate people with visuals, the same kinds of people who are more than happy to see them spam their porn wherever they go in an effort to ruin creativity if it means killing the competition to keep their companies in business.

If you were around during the time of Five Nights at Freddies and Undertale, you would remember how bad furry artists were when they wanted to spam their fanart and porn of the characters for months on end.
The games were loved and respected, but the moment furries caught wind of it, they quickly turned the brand into becoming infamously known for its porn, and it took a very VERY long time for that image to simmer, but it ends up damaging their reputation as a brand for kids because of what they're capable of.

Furry artists, as creative as they might be, should really realise how bad their deviancy has gotten, and develop some fucking common sense. And noo amount of support from the media or pride parades will ever convince me that these individuals are sane and healthy in the head.

Craig is just being the average American. Make it in the mainstream industry or your art is bottom tier. There are plenty of furry artist, Urara for example, that make some incredibly intricate and mind blowing stuff. Porn artists in Japan are incredibly skilled, just look at anyone working under BearHand.
It's not your fucking subject that matters, its how hard you train and how hard you push yourself to keep taking steps to make your work better. It just so happens that furry artists have incredibly low aspirations as to what they want their art to look like and are okay with medicority, hence they get an awful wrap.
Basically, draw whatever the fuck you want, but do it seriously. Take it seriously, because if you don't take your shit seriously, your audience sure as hell won't.

Nothing wrong with it but it is equal to seeing an artist on the streets doing 30 minute caricatures for $50 each. It might be soon thanks to Skeb and Pixiv REQUEST. It was already getting rapidly worse due to them sanitizing the domestic doujin market after the 2013 Olympic bid. forcing Creator-san to reach out to Western markets (aka more fucked in the head types). It also recently encouraged lowest common denominator tastes with Enty/Fanita, Japan paywalled late and hasn't seen that fully hit like the Western market already has, they're also a LOT more regressive when it comes to degrading the art commons with advertising crops, pandering, and hard paywall rent seeking that never releases. This has already caused a major decline in anime standards, Pixiv is almost unusable after BOX and Westerners started on boarding because they smelled money in the water. At the current technical level anime simplifies the face but understands anatomy below the belt; it does not regress and stagnate into partialism like a furfag does. Furfags will forever be clueless thanks to the financial rewarding of horrible technical work and the self sustaining echo chambers they can operate in. Failed artists flock to it and immediately find a niche to fill their galleries with.

Anime is regressing and passed its cultural golden age around ~2013 but furfags have been and always will be Sturgeon's Law taken to its absolute bottom limit. Anime porn tends to be mentally stable and revolve around penetrative intent for mouth, anus, or vagina. This healthy focus means more competition. Furfags balkanize around any number of bizzare fetishes thus competition is infinitely lower so the consumer settles for what he can get. The only thing that that would ever change that is massive competition from China liberalizing its stance on porn and causing the lazy Western artist to starve again due to PPP differences.
