Why is chicken scratch a bad thing? A lot of good anime artist do it, so it doesn’t make sense to have “line confidence”

An "is talent real" thread got chicken scratched for this.

And lots of artist don't do it. It doesn't matter what you do as long as the end result is good.

Like who? I keep hearing this, but any time I actually see a good artist’s sketch, it’s just loose and messy, not chicken scratch.

>/beg/ spotted

I'm getting so tired of seeing 'chicken scratch' this and that on this fucking board every day. Go draw instead of bitching on /ic/ trying to justify your shitty habits.

They're trying to find a shape tat pleases them, but can and will draw lines like the one on the left when inking. If you can't draw a line like that on the left, you can't draw what you need.
Chicken scratch is when you are unable to draw proper lines, not when you're creating something new and are trying different lines.

if you're gonna do it, at least do it intentionally
don't do it because you literally can't keep your pencil on the paper

I literally said “not chicken scratch” and asked for examples of professional artists actually chicken scratching. Is reading too hard?

Feeling the form, and finding/exploring lines isn't the same as chicken scratch, and beginners wouldn't know the difference anyway

It's more efficient to not chicken scratch tho. I'm still /beg/ so my sketch lines are horrid.

Having no thought in the mark that ur making can slow u down as an artist. It can also be use to make ur work soulful. Just study mark making jeez. U can experiment with ur pen/pencil to get a certain psychological emotion I mean chicken scratch looks/feels messy even though it's only a lines. The lines that u reinforce with two strokes feels heavy than ur nornal lines. U get the point

it's more of a symptom of a problem than a problem itself.
chicken scratching is basically only when you do a ton of short strokes because you're not thinking ahead on the form. it's a sign of how familliar and comfortable you are with what you are drawing.

either way it is not a fatal mistake by any means as most people rework their sketches so it doesn't show up in the finished work.

>>4812954
these are mostly long strokes with minimal chicken scratching.

>>4813295
this is chicken scratching.

I really like the colors you picked especially the white glow in the eyes. The lineart will improve with practice!

>Why is chicken scratch a bad thing?
it looks shittier than drawing with a full confident stroke and denotes a lack of confidence.
>A lot of good anime artist do it
no they don't anon. they're trying to find the right spot for the line. in your pic, the left is good because it's one big stroke.
imagine if you drew one of these lines with chicken scratches. Then you realize that's not where you want the line to go, so you make another chicken scratched line. Do enough of these and your sketch will become incomprehensible.
also appeal to authority and popularity
>it doesn’t make sense to have “line confidence”
anon, you will finish your tasks much faster if you draw one confident line instead of 20 shitty ones. yours drawing will be much more clearer.
